My Ankle: A story in pictures

I thought it would be fun to document the visual progression of my ankle injury. Time is such a great thing. And with this series of photos, I believe I have proven its’ existence. See? The same ankle but it looks different. It has changed over time. Um, at least I think it is the same ankle. I suppose it could be a new ankle at each moment in time, and it just so happens to depict a logical progression such that my mind is fooled into this whole concept of time. But wouldn’t that result in something similar to Zeno’s Achilles and the Tortoise paradox? Hmmmm… Ya know? I think it would! Grrrreat… I’m not even sure how to get out of this one. I’ll have to read more about it. Enough! On with the pictures:

Day 02
Torn ankle ligaments

Day 03
Torn ankle ligaments

Day 04
Torn ankle ligaments

I was in an immobilizing boot, and on crutches, for 9 weeks. For most of those, I kept my ankle wrapped with a bandage and elevated, when possible.

Hey Lynn. Sorry to hear about your ankle too!

I did not require surgery. It is fine now, but I was in an immobilizing boot and on crutches for about 9 weeks. I wish you the best of luck with your recovery!

    Take care.

Hi my daughter has torn a ligament to!how long did it take to recover?

  4. Joe says:

    Eve,
I believe it took about 9-12 weeks to heal to a point where I could resume normal use. However, even today (years later) it “pops” when I rotate the foot around.
Wish your daughter well for me.

Hey Joe, I was playing Vollyball, last game, last point, I went up to spike the ball, and came down on my right ankle with all my weight and rolled it. I heard three loud pops, thought I broke it, so I went to the sports medicine doctor, and they told me that I had a high ankle sprain, and three torn ligaments. The doc said I would have been better off with a broken bone, he said it heals faster, and hurts less. I am so bull headed, and I cant stand being stuck on crutches. The doc has me in a immobolizing boot as well, I have to sleep in it, which sucks because that makes for a really long night. One thing I forgot to ask the doc was , about how long I am suppose to wear the boot. He said no sports, or weight on my foot for about 8-10 weeks, and I am a very active person. Just two weeks prior to this accident, I split the back of my head open all the way to the skull about three inches in length, and my friends could see my skull when all the blood was washed away, so I am starting to think that I am accident prone lately. That happened wakeboarding. Im a trooper though no pain killers for either accident. OUCH!……. My foot, and leg looks just like your pictures, and it has been 9 days since the accident. What do you think on the whole boot thing?……

Oh man, those look familiar, but mine didn’t swell as much and had more bruising. Which ligament did you rupture? Turns out, I ruptured my calc ligament, and that was only found out 3 1/2 months later, for another injury to the same ankle. (means i had no crutches, moon boot etc for the first one).
Have you been able to get strength and stability back in it? I’m finding the whole balancing on one foot on a wobble a bit much (my physio is real tough)

Its August the 16th now and i tore all my ligaments and tendons in my ankle. Now in this month i am only going to see a specialist on how and what he is going to do to get my ankle back from breaking 6 bones and demolishing all ligaments and tendons. Could you tell me how long it was if you have or did get an operation untill you could do anything on it?

  9. Jeremy says:

    When did that happen, Joe?
